Laura Buchan examines the novels, short stories and poetry of John Buchan that were framed by the Jacobite Rising of 1745 – and how his own feelings shifted over the course of his life, when youthful enthusiasm for a noble if impossible cause, gave way to a darker, far less romantic conclusion.
Laura will discuss the role of Prince Charles Edward Stuart (‘Bonnie Prince Charlie’) in the attempt to restore his father to the throne of Great Britain in 1745.

Laura Buchan is a great grand daughter of John Buchan, novelist, historian, biographer and politician. After studying Scottish Literature at the University of Glasgow she worked in television as a producer of history and arts documentaries for the BBC. She was the researcher on a programme that uncovered the lost portrait of Charles Edward Stuart by Allan Ramsay in 2014 and has a long running interest in Jacobitism.
