The Tales of a Country Vet

Trevor Black

CHARLES MORRISON MEMORIAL LECTURE

Tuesday, 10th February 2026

Eastgate Theatre, Peebles, 7.30 p.m.

Every day is different as a country vet, from vasectomising a ferret, to a caesarean on a cow; from lame horses to feral cats. Some days are fun, some nights are awful, but Trevor Black still loves being a modern-day James Herriot.

In his talk, Trevor will describe his humble beginnings in vet practice, telling stories of how the day can be challenging, but yet rewarding. Animals are Trevor’s passion, and he considers himself so fortunate to have landed in a career which he loves.

He will reflect on how things have evolved over a short period of time, and what the future may be like for Two Rivers Veterinary Practice.

Trevor graduated from Glasgow Vet School in 1998, and after working in various mixed practices around the country, took over at Two Rivers Veterinary Practice in 2005.

He enjoys the variety that working in mixed practice brings, including surgery on dogs and cats, challenging medical cases, equine visits and farmwork. Trevor particularly appreciates being able to build up long-term relationships with his regular clients and their animals.

Outside of work, Trevor is kept busy with five children, two cats, and his wife’s horses. He enjoys watching rugby and drinking wine.
